I am working with a teacher named Evelyn Katz who teaches at William Grady High School in Brooklyn, New York. She wants to do a project with her intermediate and advanced ESL classes involving the book Hurricane Song. The novel is set in Louisiana during Hurricane Katrina. The characters must stay at the Superdome during the hurricane.

What she would like to do is have her students communicate with high school students in Louisiana who survived the hurricane. She would like to do this through her blog or perhaps skype. She sent a few emails to schools in Louisiana but no bites yet. She thinks it would be such a worthwhile experience if her students could interview and publish (both on the blog and in a book that she could send to the students in Louisiana) their stories. Additionally, the students in Louisiana could interview her students on a variety of topics including their 9/11 experiences.

Evelyn Katz would appreciate any assistance you can offer in helping me get this project off the ground!

The idea of problem-finding, of asking question to which no one knows the answers, emerged as a new model for pedagogy. [...]
