El Instituto Profesional Libertador de Los Andes, es una Institución de Educación de Superior, creada el 22 de Diciembre de 1981 por el Decreto Exento 292 del Ministerio de Educación de acuerdo a lo dispuesto en la Ley Nº 18962, Orgánica Constitucional de la Enseñanza y por los D.F.L. Nº - 1 y Nº - 5 del Ministerio de Educación con fecha 03 de Enero y 16 de Febrero de 1981 respectivamente.

Las Instituciones de Educación Superior que actuaron como examinadoras académicas fueron, la Universidad Católica de Chile y la Universidad de Valparaíso, alcanzando su plena autonomía académica el año 1993. Lo anterior, le permite otorgar de manera independiente sus títulos a los profesionales que egresan, de acuerdo al Decreto Exento Nº 292 de 1981 y ampliado en virtud del Decreto Exento Nº 194 de 1984.

La Casa Central de esta Institución, ha logrado consolidarse académicamente como uno de los Institutos, más importantes en la Provincia, debido a que se ha incorporado tanto en la parte administrativa como en la docencia, a un selecto equipo de profesionales, la mayoría de ellos vinculados a prestigiosas universidades y empresas tradicionales de la Quinta Región.
