I have worked with my Biology/Chemistry teacher to create a fully technology based science classroom. Our students use macbooks as part of a 1 to 1 program in the high school. We have now taken the next step by using Edmodo (a free Facebook looking version of Moodle http://www.edmodo.com/) to communicate with students and parents in real time. This product allows students to collaborate, ask questions, see grades and see posting from the teacher. The textbook for the class is a Flexbook ( http://www.ck12.org/flexbook/ ) that the teacher has customized by using Acrobat Pro to put in links, add and delete information, put in video and notes for the students. Test are done through a product called ExamView which are online and graded for teacher test analysis. The final phase is using Powerschool for a student management system. The classroom also has a projector and smart-board for instruction.
She still does traditional instruction with lecture, dissections, and Q & A but everything is recorded or documented through technology. Students are able to have their book on the laptop with access to the teacher remotely as well as all the classroom information.
